The Story of Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is set in Japan during the Taisho period (1912-1926), a time of transition between tradition and modernity. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted boy who lives with his family in the mountains. One day, he returns home from selling charcoal to find his family slaughtered by demons, except for his younger sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon herself. Tanjiro vows to become a demon slayer, a warrior who fights against demons using special swords and breathing techniques, and to find a way to restore Nezuko's humanity. Along his journey, he meets other demon slayers, such as Zenitsu Agatsuma, a cowardly but powerful lightning user, and Inosuke Hashibira, a wild and aggressive beast user. He also faces many enemies, such as the demons who serve Muzan Kibutsuji, the first and most powerful demon who is responsible for creating all other demons.

The Characters of Demon Slayer

One of the main attractions of Demon Slayer is its diverse and memorable cast of characters. Here are some of the main characters and their roles in the series:

Tanjiro Kamado

Tanjiro is the protagonist and a demon slayer. He is a compassionate and determined boy who cares deeply for his sister Nezuko and his friends. He uses water breathing, a technique that allows him to create water-like effects with his sword swings. He also has an enhanced sense of smell that helps him track down demons and detect their weaknesses.

Nezuko Kamado

Nezuko is Tanjiro's sister and a demon. She was turned into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji during the attack on her family. Unlike most demons, she retains some of her human emotions and memories, thanks to Tanjiro's protection and a special bamboo gag that prevents her from biting humans. She can also manipulate her size and strength to fight against other demons. She is very loyal and protective of Tanjiro and his friends.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Zenitsu is a demon slayer and one of Tanjiro's companions. He is a cowardly and nervous boy who often complains and runs away from danger. However, he has a hidden talent: he can use thunder breathing, a technique that allows him to move at lightning speed and unleash powerful electric attacks. He can only access this ability when he falls asleep or faints, which makes him unaware of his own strength. He has a crush on Nezuko and often flirts with other girls.

Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke is a demon slayer and another one of Tanjiro's companions. He is a wild and aggressive boy who was raised by boars in the mountains. He wears a boar mask and wields two serrated swords that he can use to slash and pierce his enemies. He uses beast breathing, a technique that enhances his senses and reflexes to match those of wild animals. He is very competitive and often challenges Tanjiro and Zenitsu to prove his superiority.

The Demon Slayer Corps

The Demon Slayer Corps is the organization that fights against demons using special swords and breathing techniques. The members of the corps are not officially recognized by the government, but they are supported by a secret society of wealthy benefactors. The corps is led by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the descendant of a family that has a curse that makes them age faster and die younger. The corps also has a group of elite members called the Hashira, who are the strongest and most skilled demon slayers in the organization.

The Hashira

The Hashira are the elite members of the Demon Slayer Corps, each specializing in a different type of breathing technique. They are also responsible for training and mentoring the lower-ranked demon slayers. There are nine Hashira in total, each with a unique personality and style. They are:

  • Giyu Tomioka, the water hashira, who is calm and stoic, but also kind and compassionate. He is the first demon slayer that Tanjiro meets and the one who recommends him to join the corps.

  • Mitsuri Kanroji, the love hashira, who is cheerful and bubbly, but also shy and insecure. She is the only female hashira and has a crush on Obanai Iguro, the snake hashira.

  • Muichiro Tokito, the mist hashira, who is aloof and detached, but also curious and observant. He is a prodigy who mastered his breathing technique in a short time, but also lost his memories due to a demon attack.

  • Gyomei Himejima, the stone hashira, who is stern and strict, but also gentle and caring. He is the strongest hashira physically and spiritually, and uses a large axe-like weapon instead of a sword.

  • Obanai Iguro, the snake hashira, who is cold and ruthless, but also loyal and devoted. He has a scarred face and covers his mouth with a snake-like cloth. He is the second-in-command of the hashira and respects Kagaya Ubuyashiki greatly.

  • Shinobu Kocho, the insect hashira, who is polite and graceful, but also sadistic and vengeful. She is an expert in poison and uses a thin sword that can inject venom into her enemies. She has a sisterly bond with Kanao Tsuyuri, a fellow demon slayer.

  • Kyojuro Rengoku, the flame hashira, who is passionate and enthusiastic, but also honorable and noble. He is a master of fire breathing, a technique that creates flames with his sword swings. He is admired by many demon slayers for his charisma and leadership.

  • Tengen Uzui, the sound hashira, who is flamboyant and extravagant, but also cunning and resourceful. He is a former ninja who uses sound breathing, a technique that creates shockwaves with his sword swings. He has three wives who assist him in his missions.

  • Sanemi Shinazugawa, the wind hashira, who is hot-headed and violent, but also brave and determined. He is an expert in wind breathing, a technique that creates slashes of air with his sword swings. He has a personal grudge against demons for killing his family.

The Demons

The demons are the antagonists of the series. They are humans who have been transformed into bloodthirsty monsters by Muzan Kibutsuji's blood. They have various abilities such as regeneration, shape-shifting, enhanced strength and speed, and special powers depending on their bloodline. They can only be killed by sunlight or by decapitation with a special sword made from sun steel. They feed on human flesh and blood to survive and grow stronger.

Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist and the first and most powerful demon. He is the source of all demons and the one who turned Nezuko into a demon. He is a cruel and ruthless being who seeks to destroy the Demon Slayer Corps and create a world where only demons exist. He can change his appearance and gender at will, and has multiple personalities that he uses to manipulate his followers. He has twelve subordinates called the Twelve Kizuki, who are the strongest and most loyal demons under his command.
